Britton's Farm, Whalley Range

I have faint memories of the Whalley Range of my childhood. My grandparents lived in Manley Road, near Alexandra park. There were bombsites to play on, a small one in Springbridge Road, and large ones opposite the Catholic church in Alexandra Road South. I believe that the explosion caused the church roof to shift. We played for hours on the bomb site, looking for 'treasure'. Just a little further away, off Brantingham Road, was what we knew as Brittons Farm, marked on the map as Whalley Farm. I am sure I remember a couple of cows there in the 1950s.

Brittons Farm: you can see the spire of the English Martyrs' RC church and the clocktower of the Hartley Victoria Methodist College.
